Privacy Policy
Fish Aides is an app for members of Fish Aides, a freshman leadership organization at Texas A&M University. It's run by members of the organization, not by the university. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and who can see it.
What we collect
- Your profile: name, your role in the group (Freshman, Co-Chair or Director), which lunch-buddy group you're in, and anything you choose to add: headshot, major, hometown, phone number, class year, where you live, birthday (month and day only), Instagram handle, fun facts and profile prompts.
- What you share in the app: photos, captions, comments, reactions, chat messages, polls, plans, "Down to Hang" posts and Booyah nominations.
- Your free time, only if you choose: if you connect your calendar, the app sends only the start and end times of busy blocks for the next two weeks, so it can suggest times that work for you and your buddy. Event names, places, notes and attendees never leave your phone. You can also enter a "usual week" of class times by hand instead.
- Sign-in: you join with an invite code, and your phone keeps a private sign-in token. There are no passwords and we never ask for your email.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, your phone's notification address, so we can send you things like your new lunch buddy on Sunday.
- Basic server records: like any website, our server keeps short-lived technical logs (such as the time of a request and an IP address) to keep the service running and secure.
How it's used
Only to run the app: pairing lunch buddies each week, showing your profile to other members, suggesting times, delivering messages and photos, and sending the notifications you've turned on.
Who can see it
- Members: your profile, photos, posts, comments, plans and messages in group channels are visible to other signed-in members. Your phone number is visible to members only, so your buddy can text you.
- Direct messages and group chats: only the people in that chat. Leadership can't read them. If someone reports a single message, leadership can see that one message to review it.
- Leadership (Co-Chairs and Directors): can see the member list, pairings and reports, and can remove content or members who break the Community Guidelines.
- Nobody else. Photos are stored privately and only shown through links that expire within two hours. Location data is removed from photos before they're uploaded.
Where it's stored
On servers run by Railway in the United States, including private photo storage. Connections between the app and the server are encrypted.
Deleting your information
- You can delete your own posts, photos, comments and messages at any time.
- Me › Delete account deletes your profile, headshot, photos, posts, comments, reactions, messages and sign-in. In other members' lunch-buddy history you'll appear as "Former member".
- You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing fishaidesapp@gmail.com.
Age
Fish Aides is meant for college students in the organization. It isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
